Endorsing the Power and Medical sector as the most needed of services for the general public, Opposition Leader I. Imkong today advocated that the two departments require more manpower and urged upon the government to exempt them from the purview of the government’s ban on post creation.

Making this observation on the floor of the House during the general discussion on the budget today, Imkong said that the two departments need more manpower and asked the State government to consider it by exempting them from the government’s blanket ban on post creation, so as to secure an atmosphere of delivering better health care system and effective maintenance and operation of power system in the State.

Also expressing deep concern over the prevailing irregular power supply across the State, Imkong drew the attention of the government to go in for thermal power project as well. A few days back, Congress MLA Supongmeren had said that the power department was facing shortage of nearly 900 staff and wondered as to how the department would be able to perform well at this rate.

Meanwhile, participating in the general discussion on the budget, Congress MLA K.V Pusa brought notice to the House on the plight of the inhabitants of Kohima pertaining to the water problem. “People are paying water at a high price. Many of them are wasting valuable time to fill a bucket of water,” Pusa said and urged the government to address the issue.

Referring to the government’s focus on the Look East Policy, Pusa was of the view that the international trade centres in the State must be provided with proper road connectivity and other infrastructural development. Efforts should also be made to develop waterways, landing facility for helicopter and even to the extent of initiating international airport there, he said.

Commenting on the Year of Farmers, Pusa lamented that seedlings were not distributed on time, adding that it does not reach the intended beneficiaries. MLAs Chingwang Konyak, Huska Sumi and Deo Nukhu also participated in the discussion.
