Exhibition, competitions mark National Science Day in Kiphire

“Science is one of the most important subjects a student can learn because of its relevance to our lives and its capacity to apply these vital life-skills to everyday activities. These skills help students to generate ideas, make decisions and use evidence to understand key issue,” Deputy Commissioner Kiphire, M. Shayung Phom remarked on the occasion of National Science Day organized by District Education Office (DEO), Kiphire on April 13.

Addressing the students and participants from 11 schools at Hopongkyu Memorial Hall on the theme ‘Communicating science for all’ as chief guest, the DC congratulated the office of DEO Kiphire for organizing National Science Day stating that it gives an opportunity to students to not only be the consumers but thinkers and inventors as well and look forward students from Kiphire will contribute towards the growth of humanity.

Commenting the students from various schools for coming up with innovative ideas and presentation, the DC encouraged the students to think beyond what they have presented as science is a reasoning subject so one should strive to achieve excellence.

Speaking as the guest speaker, Renny Wilfred (IAS) Addl Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Kiphire on the theme ‘Communicating Science for All’ said, “Science is everywhere in today’s world. It is a part of our daily lives from cooking and gardening, to recycling and comprehending the daily weather report, to reading a map and using a computer. 

Encouraging the students to imbibe the spirit of curiosity, R. Wilfred reminded the young minds that if you look around from chairs to pen and everything we use is the invention of science. Science is everywhere you just need eyes to see and ask the right questions.

“Advance in technology and science are transforming our world at an incredible pace, and your future will surely be filled with leaps in technology we can only imagine, so as a young students you have the responsibility to contribute your ideas towards humanity,” he added.

ADC also informed that the first garbage decomposing plant will be implemented soon in Kiphire Town in every ward and invited the student participants from Loyala Hr Sc School, Kiphire who give a presentation on Vermicompost to be a part of the programme. 

On the need to infuse public speaking confidence in students, the ADC requested DEO Kiphire to select 5 best students from every school, so that those students will be trained in public speaking skills which he felt will enthused confidence and boost the morale of students while delivering public speech. 

Delivering vote of thanks Deenabandhu Panda DEO, Kiphire stated that the objective of National Science Day is to inculcate the spirit of inquiry, help students come up with innovative ideas to drive the society forward and propel students to take up scientific study. 

On the occasion, Saramati View Modern High School was declared 1st under science exhibition category and Chumliba R of Loyala Hr Sec School bagged 1st in essay competition, while Alingla T. Sangtam of Saramati View Modern School was adjusted 1st in painting competition. 

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Yanglikokpong, special no by El Beth High School and vote of thanks delivered by Kekhaho Achumi V/P GHSS, Kiphire.
