Expedite upgradation of KPA Atoizu, Sumi Hoho urges State government

Zunheboto, July 24 (MExN): The Sumi Hoho and its frontal organizations have resolved to urge the government of Nagaland to expedite the process of establishing a full-fledged Engineering College at Khelhoshe Polytechnic Atoizu (KPA).

They also resolved to urge the government to start the first batch by 2022 without any more excuses since there are enough infrastructural facilities to accommodate more than 60 students in a batch.

KPA, the oldest polytechnic institute in Nagaland was established in 1972. A cabinet decision in December 2007 approved the upgradation of the institute to an Engineering College and the institute has also got an NBA accreditation, but is yet to start a degree programme, the Sumi Hoho noted.

The resolution follows a consultative meeting held under the initiative of MLA Atoizu Er Picto Shohe on July 21 with the District Administration, KPA College Administration, Sumi Hoho and Sumi frontal organizations, Atoizu area civil societies and land owners of KPA in attendance.

The members held a threadbare deliberation on the issues pertaining to upgradation of KPA, a press release from the Sumi Hoho informed on Saturday.

In the meeting, the land owners reaffirmed their earlier decision to sell the land to the department as per the scheduled rate of the government which will be free from all encumbrances. The land owners and local based organizations assured their full cooperation to the government in the process of upgradation and assured continuous support in all its endeavors.

The Hoho also appealed to the State Deputy Chief Minister who is also the Minister of Home, Roads and Bridges to repair the road connectivity to KPA, i.e. from Akuluto to Khitsakita via Asukhuto and from Doyang to Atoizu and also to create a Police outpost at Asukhuto where KPA is located. The Hoho expressed gratitude to Minister of Public Health Engineering Department Jacob Zhimomi for assuring water supply facility to KPA at the earliest.

Further, in its Executive Committee meeting held on July 23, the Sumi Hoho reiterated its earlier resolutions on the KPA upgradation process and asserted that it would not be a ‘mere spectator’ “when someone tries to sabotage the process of KPA upgradation.”
