Exporters’ conclave pitches for more productivity

MOKOKCHUNG, SEPTEMBER 27 (MExN): An exporters’ conclave was held at the Conference Hall of Hotel Metsuben, Mokokchung on September 25. The conclave was organised by DIC, Mokokchung and Industries and Commerce Department, Nagaland, in collaboration with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), Director General of Foreign Trade (DGFT).

Speaking on the occasion as the special guest, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung, Shashank Pratap Singh, IAS, said that though the State of Nagaland is basically an agriculture dominated state, there are lots of potential in the primary sectors. He said, as of now, Nagaland is still conditioning from traditional to modern practice, but if it is to catch up with others, the state needs to surplus the export. “In order to achieve it we need to cover more area for production thereby increase the productivity,” he stated. 

Singh added “Initially we cannot export everything, therefore we need to specialize and focus on few products.” He said there should be convergence of schemes and integrated plans to export the state’s unique production. In this way, apart from generating economy we can create goodwill among the societies, he said.

The second session was followed by knowledge sharing, where topics like how to export, business prospects in agri products from Nagaland, prospects in coffee, business prospects in horticulture products from Nagaland and support schemes & financial assistance to new & existing entrepreneurs were discussed. 

Resource persons were Inspector, DIC Mokokchung, Mhanbemo Kithan; Deputy DAO, Agriculture, Dr Lanunochetla; DPO, Land Resource, Dr Sashiyangba; Inspector, Horticulture, Recha Imchen; and Branch Manager, SBI Bazar Branch, Mokokchung, Purwati.

Earlier, General Manager, DIC Mokokchung, Atula Lemtor delivered the welcome address and Functional Manager, DIC Mokokchung, Talimeren proposed the vote of thanks.
