Extortion case: FGN apologizes

Dimapur, March 25 (MExN):  The FGN today issued a note expressing apology in response to a statement over an attempt to extort as well as intimidating a retired senior government official. The Chakhro Angami Kuda Union (CAKU) had pointed out in a statement yesterday over a March 18 case of extortion from two persons, one of them stated to be a “sgt” in the FGN.  A note appended by “joint secretary ministry of rali wali” G Zhimomi said that the outfit undertook a “thorough investigation” through an “empowered committee on military advisors.” The FGN said it found that “sergeant” Vito Yeptho of “6th bde” had “illegally” and “without the govt. azha” served what the FGN note called a “receipt challan” to retired IAS officer V Sekhose.
The group has “suspended” the said Vito Yeptho with effect from March 25. The note said the other person, one Ihoto Aye “has no such name in our govt” and necessary action would be taken soon. The FGN has apologized to the CAKU and the retired officer “to bear with us for the cadre’s misconduct.” The note also appealed for “respect one another” and not serving warnings. The note even asserted, “No organization or individual is above the government.”
