
DIMAPUR, AUGUST 4 (MExN): The Dhansiri River Flood Control Board (DRFCB) expressed pain to learn about the excavation of sand gravel and stone in the Dhansiri River and pointed out that the “extortion of sand gravel in the river bed near the Referral Hospital is very dangerous and beyond imagination”. “And after some years, the hospital side would be washed away and the Niuland Bridge which is the main life-line for the public would also be cut-off”, stated a press note issued by Hokheto Kiba, Chairman; DRFCB.
The press note informed that the excavation of sand and sand gravel and boulders is not only near Referral Hospital but in other part of Dhansiri River tributary, Diphu. The DRFCB with reference to Diphupar Village Council ban on heavy machineries, excavators at Diphu river published on 31st July, 2012 has stated that it was “highly pleased and thus once again encourage not only public of DVC jurisdiction but all the villagers and colonies living near the said Rivers should co-operate in stopping the sand and sand gravel and boulders excavation, otherwise after some gap of years, the problem would be beyond our control”.
The DRFCB stated that the “common people do not understand about the damaging of development and soil erosion which is heavily causing due to sand gravel and stone excavation in the river bed”. It has therefore requested that the administration take necessary steps by organizing public awareness programs, seminars to educate the common people or else the problem would badly affect the common people”.
