Dimapur, August 14 (MExN): The Fabindia clothing brand on Saturday tendered an unconditional apology for inadvertently hurting the sentiments of the Naga people.
The apology came a day after the NHHDC Ltd Board of Directors issued a statement against the misuse and appropriation of Naga traditional attires and ornaments, in the brand’s new clothing collection.
In an email addressed to the Chairperson, Nagaland Handloom & Handicrafts Development Cooperation Ltd. (NHHDC Ltd), Fabindia’s Managing Director Viney Singh said that brand has supported the tremendous craft and cultural diversity of Nagaland and heritage of the Naga people for over 30 years and worked with weavers and handicraft artisans from various Naga tribes through local entrepreneurs.
“We sincerely regret, if inadvertently, we have offended anyone’s sentiments in this process. Our intention is always to popularise the crafts and highlight the immense contribution made by the craftspeople and artisans of Nagaland. We offer our unconditional apology and will immediately withdraw any products that in anyway hurt sentiments,” Singh stated.
Singh reiterated Fabindia’s commitment and support to the Nagaland Handloom and Handicrafts Development Corporation, and said it would look forward to working with the Corporation in promoting the work of designers and artisans from Nagaland.
