Fair Price Shops being ‘deprived of due share’

DIMAPUR, APRIL 11 (MExN): Fair Price Shop dealers across the state have not received their due share of transportation and handling charges ever since the launching of the National Food Security Act (NFSA) 2013 and subsequent implementation of Priority House Hold (PHH), under the Food & Civil Supplies Department in Nagaland.

This was revealed in a press statement today by the All Nagaland Fair Price Shops Association. It stated that the dealers have been giving their best efforts in distributing essential commodities to the beneficiaries (Ration Card Holders) allotted under public distribution system through Fair Price Shops.

They have been adhering to the department directives, bearing all transportation & handling cost, with the assurance from the government to be reimbursed as and when the fund reaches the concerned department, it stated. The statement however lamented that “for all the patience and hard work rendered, we are dismayed to see the silence and deaf ear of the State Government for failing to reimburse the cost of expenditure incurred till date for reasons best known to them even after much appeal and representations through the Director’s office.”

There has been no positive response even after the fund was received from the centre, it stated and observed that the government has failed to deliver justice and respect the work contributed by Fair Price Shops, “thereby ignoring our principle rights of getting back the due share as per agreement.”

It reiterated that fund for reimbursement of transportation and handling charges has already been sanctioned by the Central Government.

The association appealed to the Chief Minister and the Advisor, FCI to intervene immediately and release the transportation and handling charges in order to avoid “differences and complication in the future.”

It meanwhile assured that the association would extend full cooperation “in delivering its noble job towards the people and shall in any manner do its best to bridge a gap between the government and the beneficiaries and build a conducive atmosphere.”
