
DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 7 (MExN): One person was caught at the Dimapur railway station with counterfeit currency on February 6. GRPS personnel confiscated from the accused three currency notes of Rs. 100 and Rs. 5 denominations. Police also recovered a wad of finely cut papers, which is suspected to be one of the ingredients in counterfeiting currency. The carbon-paper like notes of paper, numbering 240 of one-thousand rupee note dimension, had some kind of chemical coating the nature of which is yet to be ascertained.
The accused was in transit enroute Sarupathar, Karbi-Anglong from Guwahati when he was caught. He was identified as Farid Ahmed (27 years), hailing Rajapokhari, Golaghat. According to GRPS OC, Salie Nagi, the accused was found moving about in a suspicious manner. He also tried to bribe his way out when confronted by the policemen on duty, the OC said.
