Dimapur, March 11 (MExN): ‘Give peace a chance’, this phrase has become identical with the Naga people today. However, the cry for peace and reconciliation among the Naga underground factions are nothing but a mockery according to a press statement issued by a Naga Army from the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) ‘Maj’ Wichanlungbo here today.
The FGN press release stated that in the past years, the NGOs leaders appealed the NSCN (IM) group to give peace a chance which was ‘bluntly and blatantly rejected’ by the NSCN (IM). However the release pointed out that the NSCN (IM) leaders are now shouting the slogan ‘give peace a chance’ and termed it as a ‘funny thing and hypocrisy as well as an insult to our people’.
In the same vein, the FGN press release pointed out that the peace proclamations by the NSCN (IM) leadership is nothing but an act of condemning themselves and pointed out two incidences where the NSCN (IM) cadres killed two of the FGN top functionaries in Kohima.
“Last year 2006, they (NSCN-IM) killed two of our leaders Eno Imnung Mar Jamir and Eno L Palang, Kilonsers of the FGN. They were freely walking in Kohima….but they were chased by IM armed cadres and brutally shot dead… on 1st June and 16th December 2006 (respectively)” stated the release. In the light of this, the release mocked the condemnation by the NSCN (IM) about the killing of unarmed people and stated that the NSCN (IM) is just condemning themselves.
“But today (11/03/07) in Nagaland dailies they (the IM group) vehemently condemned the killing of unarmed man as unwise and insane and termed as an act of heinous crime. So, now I see that they are condemning themselves” the release stated.
Further, the release, while dwelling deep into the past incidences of Nagaland and especially with regards to the dealings of the NSCN (IM), stated that it was through the guidance of God that ‘peace’ was restored in Nagaland in the year 1975. However, “Th Muivah and Isak (Swu) rejected it and dragged the Nagas into violence and blood path” and added that they have killed many Naga national leaders and thousand of innocent Nagas during the past 27 years.
