Fiery Sunday could have been averted, says NSCN-K

Dimapur, May 4 (MExN): The April 22 rampage in Wungram Colony, Dimapur, would have been averted had the parties involved in the unfortunate development of the previous day (that led to the arson) exercised restraint, says the NSCN-K of the Lotha region.  But the “Red Fort” of the NSCN-IM was destroyed similar to the Merapani war of 1984, it observed.

The colony is a replica of Delhi Red Fort and, a note from the region’s caretaker stated, in this “Red Fort,” NSCN-IM functionaries lived comfortably and securely within tight fencing and barricaded gates. However it was destroyed by the irate mob.

“It was quite unfortunate incident and regrettable. We are not happy when our enemies are in trouble as the Bible says but what we meant is that it could have been averted if some serious thought had been taken by all the parties concerned” the NSCN-K stated.

Drawing similarity with the 1984 Merapani War, the caretaker said the “Red Fort was burnt down.” The Merapani War was “actually” provoked by Assam and the Nagaland government responded by “investing” money and men to wage war, it stated.

“The Nagas clearly won the battle” it explained and the “refugees” who were “settled” by the Assam Government in the Disputed Area Belt (DAB) fled the area.

“Likewise, the Red Fort in Nagaland was burnt down and damaged” the NSCN-K concluded but there was hue and cry to resettle the affected community by raising donations in cash and kind by the same people who were bitterly against them before the incident.

The NSCN-K also took note that “according to information” weapons and ammunitions belonging to the NSCN-IM were found by the rampaging people in one of the houses, built within the ‘Survey Training Institute’ (government land) adjoining the colony. “Such are the cases everywhere in Nagaland and that is why we are always complaining against the state-sponsored terrorism in Nagaland” the NSCN-K explained.
