Dimapur, September 11 (MExN): Lengyu village farmers and nine self-help groups (SHGs) were given food processing training on September 7 at the Taste of Noklak Society (TONS) office.
TONS along with the Office of the Noklak Superintendent of Police have been providing training in livelihood to the villages and SHGs on a regular basis, informed a press release on Sunday.
Lengyu village is rich in many fruit products which often get wasted. As such, training was given in making juices, pickles, chips, candies, other value added products etc, for both male and female groups, the release stated.
Earlier in the year, Pangsha village, Yokao village and Kingniu village farmers were also given training by TONS and Noklak Police. The training initiatives are a holistic approach of society empowerment where both males and females learn the skills and later make teams to work together with concept of division of labour from farming to food processing and marketing, the release stated.
This not only help farmers’ empowerment but also helps school dropouts, students and youngsters in search of employment to get engaged in entrepreneurship, stated SP Noklak Dr Pritpal Kaur, according to the press release.
Other villages will also get training as per the local raw materials and resources available there to preserve local biodiversity and traditional knowledge. Every society or SHG should teach another society to rise together as whole district, it said.
The trainings are given with a motto of ‘fighting drugs with livelihood’ at the Indo Myanmar borders under theme of ‘OPS Community Oriented Police Service.’
