Film Association of Nagaland officially joins FFSI family

The Film Association of Nagaland (FAN) is now officially affiliated with the Federation of Film Societies of India (FFSI).

The official induction of FAN with FFSI family took place today in the presence of FFSI vice president Premendra Mazumder at the Art Gallery, Regional Centre of Excellence for Music & Performing Arts (RCEMPA), Jotsoma, near Kohima.

Speaking on the occasion, Mazumder said there are over 350 regular film societies and over 100 campus film societies in colleges and universities all over the country.

He added that the two prime objectives of FFSI are to propagate film culture and promote better cinema.

He also highlighted the changes in filmmaking and screening processes over the years and the impact of social media on films.

Mazumder stated that to understand good films, one has to watch them, again and again.

Mazumder, who is also Asia- Pacific secretary, International Federation of Film Societies, highlighted the various film-related activities taken up by the FFSI all over the country.

He also suggested various steps and initiatives that the State Government and FAN can take to promote the film industry in Nagaland.
 
Overview of FAN
FAN member Wabang Moa said that FAN was formally registered as a society in 2018. Till date, with persons from different media related fields, FAN has 56 members.

FAN was formed with the intention of ensuring overall improvement in the standard of film making, to enhance the scenario of film and media in the state, to safeguard the interests of genuine and established individuals in the field of producing, directing, cinematography, editing, scriptwriting, acting, sound, lighting and other related activity in the area of filmmaking of Nagaland, he said.

To enhance the technical and professional production skills, he said that FAN has been holding screening of films, seminars, workshops of all kinds, and other forms of interaction.

FAN also conducted an online film competition recently, where budding young talents were featured, and given a platform.

Workshop and training sessions will continue to be organised from time to time with the help of experts, he said.

“Since the Federation of Film Societies of India (FFSI) is the umbrella body of film-screening societies in India, and currently a member of the International Federation of Film Society, of UNESCO, FAN is privileged to be associated with FFSI,” Moa said.

With Directorate of Information & Public Relations (DIPR) as the nodal department, FAN had also organised two successful film festivals in 2019 and 2021.

“It has created a space for filmmakers across our region & beyond to come together, interact, share and support each other besides screenings, workshop, panel discussions and master classes,” he said.

He appreciated DIPR for their constant support and cooperation towards FAN and media persons.
 
Seven films screened
The programme witnessed screening of seven films. It included; From Khovrino, Russia (By Daria Elena Dashunina), Goodnight Colombo, Sri Lanka (By 9 Directors), Far Away, India ( By Nidhi Taneja), Silence, Bangladesh (By Amitabh Reza Chowdhary), Sincerely Yours Dhaka, Bangladesh (By 9 Directors), Karbala Memoirs, India (By Sourav Sarangi) and When The Earth Sang a Song, India (By Teenaa Kaur).

Earlier, FAN president Kivini Shohe felicitated Premendra Mazumder while welcome address was delivered by FAN member Gracy Chunjanglu. Special number was presented by Mhaphruonuo Rutsa.

Mentionably, FFSI is the umbrella body of film-screening societies in India. It has focused its activities on the promotion of good cinema, worked to acquire feature and short films to feed its member units for screenings, and associate itself with both national and international organisations undertaking similar work.
