Dimapur, July 14 (MExN): So-Li-Su Theatre will present a theatrical production, ‘Voice from the Past’, on July 15 to commemorate Mahakavi Kalidasa Jayanti and the 150th anniversary of the national song ‘Vande Mataram’.
The hour-long physical theatre performance, directed by Kilangtemsü Imsong, will be held at 6:00 PM at the Town Hall, Dimapur. The event is being organised under the initiative of the Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi, and is open to the public with free admission.
The play depicts the struggles, sacrifices, and resilience of the Indian people under British colonial rule, drawing inspiration from the freedom movement. It employs a dynamic fusion of visual imagery, sound, music, and expressive body movements to create a compelling theatrical experience that transcends words.
‘Voice from the Past’ journeys through defining moments in India’s fight for independence, portraying the pain and unwavering determination of people from across the nation. It reflects the countless sacrifices of ordinary men and women whose blood was shed on the very soil of their motherland, symbolically turning rivers blue into rivers of red.
More than a historical retelling, the production serves as a heartfelt tribute to the courage and patriotism of those who laid down their lives for the nation’s freedom. It reminds every generation to honour the legacy of those who gave everything for their motherland, the synopsis stated.
The play is performed in Nagamese and English, with a cast of 15 artists who have also managed set design, props, and costumes over an eight-day preparation period.
So-Li-Su Theatre is based in Nagaland, with Kilangtemsü Imsong as its Director.
