DIMAPUR, JANUARY 10 (MExN): A fire incident early on Monday morning, January 10 destroyed a top-floor residence of a two-storied building at Notun Bosti, Dimapur. The cause of the fire, believed to have started around 3:00 am, is yet to be ascertained.
Residents living on the lower floors said that they were awakened, when shouts from the neighbours alerted them of flames emanating from the top floor. Fortunately, nobody was in the rooms affected by the fire. The top floor with four rooms had three families as tenants, it was learned. All the tenants were away for the past few days.
It destroyed almost all the belongings in the rooms beyond retrieval. One resident living on the ground floor said that the flames spread so rapidly, which prevented them from salvaging some belongings, atleast.
Three fire-tenders took nearly two hours to bring the flames under control. Damage to properties could not be ascertained but it is believed to run into a few lakh.
