Fire & Emergency Services clarifies

It is to clarify that the Fire fighters stationed at Kohima Fire Station received a fire call on 11/6/2013 at 22:30 Hrs and the Fire fighters reached the fire spot (Keretsunuo’s clan building) near P.W.D junction, Kohima at 22:35 Hrs, where 35 Fire fighters alongwith 5 (five) Fire tenders were pressed into service and the fire was controlled at 0230 hrs.12/06/13. The undersigned would like to clarify on following points :

I)    When the pump of Fire tender is used at its peak, it can empty 4000 ltrs-5000 ltrs within 2 ½ -3 minutes.
II)    Fire Service truck has to be parked within reasonable distance from the fire site to avoid fire hazards on the fire engines.
III)    Whenever fire broke out, the public out of their concern/enthusiasm drag the hose pipe of firefighters and overcrowded the fire area which rather obstruct the fire tenders and fire fighters to reach the desire fire site which ultimately delay the firefighters to execute timely action which is very crucial.
IV)    Using derogatory language, such as ‘stupidly and callousness’ may kindly be used only after ascertaining the facts.

It is to appreciate that, in most of the fire incidents the Assam Rifles water tanker’s turn up to show their concern. However, it is to clarify that, this tanker’s are only drinking water tank and not fire fighting tender. At the most, it can be used to fill buckets to fight fire in a conventional way.

The department will always appreciate constructive criticism and strive to serve the public in a better way.
