First disqualification hearing on Oct 31

Kohima, October 26 (MExN): Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) has fixed the date for first hearing of TR Zeliang’s petition with regard to the disqualification of 9 MLAs on October 31.

A Press Communique from Commissioner & Secretary, Benjamin Newmai, NLA Secretariat, today stated that the NLA Speaker has sought the appearance of the petitioner and 9 respondents “either in person or through counsel” in order to “hear them out of the fundamental issues on which the proceedings can be held.”

It may be reminded that TR Zeliang, Chief Minister of Nagaland, had filed a petition on August 4, 2017, for disqualification of 10 MLAs, namely, Y Vikheho Swu, Chotisuh Sazo, Kuzholuzo Nienu, Yitachu, CL John, N Thongwang Konyak, P Longon, R Tohanba and T Torechu. The 10th, Kiyanelie Peseyie, passed away in September this year.

Newmai informed that the petition was forwarded for the reply of the respondents (10 MLAs) on August 10 and their reply was received on August 24. The petitioner filed his rejoinder to these on September 18.
