The first ever Mon Film Festival and award show is set to take place between December 18-19 at the Local ground in Mon town. Organised by the Mon district administration, the two-day festival will feature entertainment performances, guest celebrity appearances, showcase of exceptional films and an open film competition.
Announcing this during a press conference held at Hotel Europa Inn, Dimapur on November 19, Neangbah Konyak, actor and judge said that the competition is open for all interested film makers, videographers and creative minds in Nagaland who can submit their work for nomination in various categories.
He explained that the entries should be a short film (10 minutes maximum) and in any language or dialect provided it has to have English subtitles. Also, the film has to be centered on the given themes of entertainment, environment or social issues.
The video files then have to be uploaded on Google drive and sent at the email address monfilmfestival@gmail.com
“So far we have received about 22 films,” he revealed while adding that an individual can submit up to 10 films. The last date of submission is on December 15.
The winners of each category will receive cash prizes along with certificates and trophy. These include for best film (overall), best screenplay, best director, best actor and actress, cinematography and editing.
The judges for the competition will be, Atae Konyak, veteran Nagamese film actor and director, Neangbah Konyak, who has acted in films and series such as Dukh (part I and II), Family Man 3.
Crosswell Timung, Bollywood actor who has been featured in Anek, Jan Bas, Bihu Attack and also an International film awardee for Mirbeen.
According to Atae, a major component to make Nagaland’s film industry grow is support from the State government as it has the potential to increase employment opportunities for the youths, thereby enhancing the State’s economy as well.
Timung meanwhile added that State needs to set up more cinema halls across each of the districts which would encourage more film makers to produce local films.
