Dimapur, April 7 (MExN): The Dimapur Sakshi Union organized its first Phom monyiu amateur badminton tournament from April 4 to 5 at the Multi-disciplinary sports complex DC court junction Dimapur under the theme “Let’s celebrate Phom Monyiu with a smash.”
According to its President, Shahnyu Phom, the union decided to celebrate Phom Monyiu with a purpose to promote badminton among the Phom community in particular and the Naga brethren in general and also to promote “our ethnic cuisines, culture and traditions.”
A total of 56 teams participated which included a team from Arunachal Pradesh and from Bokajan Assam, the union stated.
On the first day, Vice President Dimapur Phom Union, graced the event as the special guest where he highlighted the impact of badminton in India and Nagaland in particular. He also encouraged the young players to show more dedication and enthusiasm in the field of sports.
The total prize money for all the categories was Rs 85,000.
