The FIT A-human welfare Ministry would like to express our view and concern relating to cleaning Liquor trafficking in the Jalukie Town and surrounding Villages. It is a well known fact that liquor consumption is detrimental /injurious to health. Not only physical health but also mental and spiritual. Knowingly and intentionally in taking is not only harming himself but also causing social ruin, broken homes, crimes, accidents, lawless acts etc. Its influence is felt every where. When a person is under alcoholic influence, he looses his balance and his sense goes insane. There is no peace, no real courage, no right sense and no mental stability for him. As a result he creates problems in the homes and society. It is not the drunkard and his family alone who are imperiled by the work of the liquor sellers, nor is the burden of taxation the chief evil which his traffic brings on the community. All the community is affected in a way or the others; we are all woven together in the web of humanity. The evil that befalls on any part of the great human brotherhood brings perils to all. Thousands of rupees are being spent in buying wretchedness, poverty, disease, degradation, lust, crime, and death every day. Houses of prostitutions, criminal court, prisons, alms houses, asylums, hospitals all are to a great extend filled as a result of the liquor sellers’ work. Behind the liquor sellers stands the mighty destroyer of souls and bodies. They are a blot on our society, bringing shame and poverty, curse and peril in the land. Who can think of the wretchedness, the agony, the despair that is hidden in the home of the drunkards? Think of the wife, children robbed of home comforts, education, and training; living in terror of him who should be their pride and protector from external threat. Think of the accidents that are every day occurring through the influence of drink. The exactions do not cease even when the victim of sellers (drunkard) is dead, he robs the widow and brings children to beggary by demanding the drink bill of the husband and father. The cries of the suffering children, the tears of the agonized mother, serve only to exasperate him. All the miseries cannot be numbered caused by the direct and indirect influence of alcohol selling and consumption.
While the cause of alcohol consumption was on the brim of creating a social norm and habit, the Jalukie women Welfare Society spearheaded the task of cleaning the Town of its influence backed by Jalukie Town Council and good will Church based organizations and NGOs. As the result, much tranquility and civil obedience are seen in and around the Town. We also appreciates those sellers and drinkers for their acceptance and patience over the act of cleaning, even though the process of cleaning the problems hurt them right at the spot yet for general social sake maintained calm and positively considered. Although there were some who reacted by creating a group/ organization but remained silent honoring the general view and demand
We also appreciate Shri. Hiazu SDO (Civil) Jalukie In charged for his deep concern and needful and timely intervention over the issue and brought about mutual acceptance, understanding and consensus. He called a joint consultative Meeting of all the Jalukie Town Council members, civil authority, Senior citizens, NGOs leaders, on the 19th October 2005 at his office chamber and shared his concerns, and heard views, opinion and suggestions of the members present. He appreciated the women leaders for undertaking the task of cleaning the Town and re-affirmed the Activities of Liquor control as per the Nagaland state Liquor Total prohibition Act. He also issued an interdict order to the newly organized body (paupai Zau sak) to dissolve it with immediate effect. For the Organization stands direct challenge to and against the Nagaland state Total liquor prohibition Act. His insightful sharing was much appreciated. Important Views, suggestions and strategies in connecting to controlling alcohol trafficking were shared by leaders present.
The honor of God, the stability of the Nation, the well being of the community, of the home and of the individual demand that every possible effort must be implored in putting off the terrible evil and effect of liquor consumption. Let the drink maddened men be given the opportunity to escape from the thralldom of liquor and live a free life again. Let the voice of the Nation demand that a Full stop be put to this infamous traffic.
“If thou forbear to deliver them that are drawn unto death, and those that are ready to be slain; if thou sayest, behold we knew it not; doth not He that pondered the heart consider it? And he that keepeth thy soul, doth not he know it?” And “What wilt thou say when he shall Punish Thee?”-Proverbs 24: 1, 12 Jeremiah 13:21.
