The Rengma Selo Zi (RSZ) on Monday initiated a flag-hoisting campaign in support of the Rengma community’s aspiration for creation of Tseminyu district.

The campaign is a democratic means of expressing the dreams and aspirations of the Rengma community in support of the Tseminyu district demand spearheaded by Rengma Hoho which was initiated in 2006 and a memorandum submitted to the state government in 2016.

Talking to The Morung Express, RSZ president Kenneth Kath said “This is one of our first phases of awareness campaign. This neither a protest nor an agitation,” adding that it is a campaign to express that the desire for the Tseminyu District is still alive.

We want the government to steadfastly take up this matter at the highest level and take the decision at the earliest for our people, Kath said.

He informed that another campaign in the form of “banner campaign” will take place on August 12.

Starting from today, every house in Tseminyu town and all the villages and even citizens staying in Kohima and Dimapur also expressed willingness to put up flag in their respective homes, he said.

The campaign was kick started by RSZ president Kenneth Kath at Tseminyu town.

Hundreds of households participated and extended their solidarity by hoisting flag bearing a “I Support Tseminyu District Demand."
