Ronsayan and Jandalashung B villages, located in the Ralan area under Bhandari Sub Division of Wokha district, have been severely impacted by flash floods triggered by continuous heavy rainfall.
Floods have reportedly submerged significant portions of residential areas, causing extensive damage to homes, livestock, and infrastructure.
There were, however, no reports of human casualties or injuries till the filing of this report.
Renben Humtsoe, GB Union President of Ralan Area, reported that the flash flood struck overnight on 29 July, resulting in substantial losses to paddy fields, fisheries, areca nut plantations, and rubber plantations.
Furthermore, he added that numerous households and livestock were swept away, leaving the villagers to face immense hardship, including displacement from their homes, loss of livelihoods, and shortages of basic necessities such as food, clean water, and shelter.
Humtsoe highlighted that such flooding occurs almost every year, with two instances already this month alone.
He expressed frustration that despite submitting reports and applications to the relevant authorities each time, no inspections have been conducted nor any assistance provided.
Emphasising the slow response of the government compared to other states, Humtsoe appealed for immediate intervention from the concerned authorities to witness firsthand the hardships faced by villagers due to the floods.
