FNR calls for immediate end to all violent rhetoric by NPGs & NCOs

Cautions against political fallacies, calls for reflection and honouring CoR

Dimapur, July 28 (MExN): The Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) today admonished the Naga Political Groups (NPGs) and Naga civil organisations (NCOs) to “put an end to all violent rhetoric of words, actions, statements, etc., with immediacy.”

It also called for honouring the Covenant of Reconciliation (CoR) in toto, as resolved, as it reflects the wishes of the Naga people and aligns with their spiritual commitments.

“To dishonour CoR will mean obliterating the wishes of the people and, more importantly, saying ‘No’ to God,” the Forum asserted in a strongly-worded statement.

Critically commenting on the current state of internal conflict, it called for a shift away from self-justification and divisive actions.

“Naga nationalism is far more profound and sacred than economic struggles. This perspective prioritises national identity over economic concerns alone,” it contented.

Accordingly, the FNR reiterated its call to NPGs and NCOs for critical and analytical reflection within the family, among surrounding neighbours, and within the current global political context.

“While Nagas are intoxicated by the things within, the unattended urgent matters outside of us in the surrounding landscape and geopolitics cannot be allowed to exist in a vacuum,” it stated.

The Forum further underscored that imagining that one group can neutralise others by sanctioning ultimatums is a grave political fallacy. “Any form of venomous words towards our own is to delude oneself,” it added.

In this connection, the FNR called for breaking free from ‘being miserably caged’ by internal perceptions and self-justification, as the public “sees through and through who we are.”  It further highlighted that the image of interdependency and cooperation is the model in global politics today.

“Can Nagas not think of our viability within the larger process of democratic ‘independence’ without erasing the ‘Historical and Political Rights of the Nagas’?” the FNR posed rhetorically, adding: “Let us act upon this without delay.”
