Naga groups to abstain from media confrontation
Dimapur, June 10 (MExN): The Joint Working Group (JWG) and the Forum for Naga Reconciliation met on June 10, 2010 at Dimapur to “reflectively and constructively engage on issues related to Naga Reconciliation”. Emphasizing the importance to respect the spirit of Naga Reconciliation, the Forum for Naga Reconciliation implored upon the political groups with the message of the Naga people, that “any publication either in the print or visual media detrimental to the Naga Reconciliation process needed to be stopped totally, with immediate effect”. This was informed through a press note issued by the FNR.
According to the FNR, in response, the Joint Working Group of the GPRN/NSCN, NNC/FGN, NSCN/GPRN have “resolved to once again reiterate not to publish any items in the printed or visual media which will injure one another, and can potentially endanger the Naga Reconciliation process”. The FNR press note also stated that the Joint Working Group expressed the urgency and necessity to hold a reconciliation meeting at the highest level between the signatories of the Covenant of Naga Reconciliation at the earliest.
It was also informed that in a meeting of the Forum for Naga Reconciliation, the members affirmed its commitment to actively pursue Naga Reconciliation: A Journey of Common Hope, in all fairness, impartiality and mutual respect, keeping in mind the Naga common interest at its center. The Forum for Naga Reconciliation also called upon the highest level of leadership of the signatories of the Covenant of Reconciliation to initiate “a consultative mechanism that will explore all possible avenues to enable an inclusive and common Naga process to find a solution based on the political and historical rights of the Nagas”.
