A prayer and floral tribute programme in honour of late Khriesavizo Metha and late Bendangnunsang Longkumer organised by the Diphupar Village Council was held on February 25.
“It is not a gathering of joy but of grief and sadness. Diphupar has so many painful memories we cannot forget,” said Benjamin Aye, Asst Pastor, Sumi Baptist Church Diphupar, who led the prayer at the tribute paid by members of Diphupar village. Quoting a verse from the Bible “The truth will set you free,” Aye urged the gathering to continue to follow and walk in the truth because it is the truth that brings victory.
Paying tribute to the two martyrs, Lanutoshi, Chairman, DVC stated that “will of the people is the will of God but the government failed to understand the will of God” and further added, “We are happy not because T.R Zeliang resigned as the CM or because Shürhozelie has become the CM, but we are happy because our young generation could stand up for their rights. We should all know how to stand for our rights.”
K.T Vilie who spoke on behalf of Angami Public Organisation (APO) stated that the two youth fought to protect and preserve Article 371A, so that young generation can take the issue forward in future. “Their lives and sacrifices have brought unity among Nagas,” added Vilie.
Asserting that the graveyard of the two martyrs is now a sanctified place for all Nagas, Dr. P. Ngully, NTAC said, “It symbolizes the Naga family coming together, it symbolizes the defining moment of the Naga family, for all times and all generation to come.” Dr. Ngully also thanked Diphupar village for their sons in making the ‘supreme sacrifice’. “At a juncture when Naga society was lost, the sacrifices of Bendangnungsang and Khriesavizo awakened us to a society that value life,” added Dr.Ngully. And their sacrifices have shown how a valuable society should emerge and define what democracy mean, according to Dr. Ngully, and where Naga society will emerge into a just world.
Flower wreaths were laid by the organizations from Diphupar. The programme was chaired by E.Philip Lotha, Secretary, DVC while short speeches were delivered by Vekre Puro, President, Diphupar Naga Youth Organisation and family member of Khriesavizo Metha.
