Dimapur, August 17 (MExN): The Young Naga Action Committee on Foothills Road (YNACFR) on Wednesday demanded that the State Government release the pending bills of contractors involved in the construction of the Foothill Road before September 15.
In a press release issued through its Media Cell, the Committee, lamented the “lackadaisical attitude” of the state government in spite of constant appeals from the Nagaland Foothill Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) with regard to early completion of the Foothill Road.
According to the Committee, despite the onset of the summer season, most contractors have completed 80% of the work, and “As per the meeting conveyed by the Office of the Chief Engineer PWD (R & B) on July 22, 2022 the pending bills are to be released as per the work completed.”
However, it said that the contractors’ pending bills have not been released till date. Without payment of bills, it said that the project would not progress and to objective to make the road motorable, as per the timeline stipulated by the NFHRCC, would not be achieved.
In this connection, the Committee, stating that the Foothill Road is the ‘survival lifeline’ for the people of Nagaland, demanded that the matter be addressed within a period of 30 days (ending on September 15), failing which it would “take its own deemed course of action necessary.”
YNACFR, comprising students and youths of 13 affected tribes of Nagaland was formed under the aegis of NFHRCC.
