Porbami receives Great Barbet from forest department on September 30.
Kohima, September 30 (MExN): The Centre Chakhesang Youth Organisation (CCYO) today acknowledged the Nagaland Forest Department for giving due respect to the sentiments of the people and the customs and traditions of the Nagas and for returning the Great Barbet to Porbami village.
The bird was received from Forest officials by the CCYO in the presence of the Administration, Centre Chakhesang Public Organisation (CCPO), Centre Chakhesang GBs Union, Village Council, Youth Organisation of CCYO and other public leaders.
Meanwhile, the CCYO reaffirmed its commitment to uphold the standing resolutions of the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) and the Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) regarding forest and wildlife conservation.
The CCYO reaffirmed that indiscriminate burning of jungle is strictly prohibited.
It also banned collection and extraction of medicinal plants for commercial purposes.
The organization stated that hunting of any form is strictly banned throughout the year, adding that capturing, coursing, snaring, trapping or baiting of birds or wild animals is restricted.
Any person found carrying weapons, explosives, firearms, poison, snares, traps or any apparatus capable of killing, injuring, decoying or even anesthetizing birds or wild animals shall be liable for penalty as per the resolutions and such equipment/arms shall be seized.
Any person found selling or buying any hunted wild animals or birds shall also be liable for punishment as per the resolutions of CPO ad CYF, it stated.
As resolved in the CPO General Session held on 23rd January, 2024 at Chizami village, use of Airguns is fully banned. Anyone found with an Airgun for any reason shall be liable for punishment as per the resolutions and the gun shall be confiscated.
It stated that use of battery, generator, chemicals, etc. for fishing is strictly prohibited. Such equipment/apparatus shall be seized and action shall be taken as per the resolutions.
The CCYO stands firm to protect and uphold the Customary and Traditional Rights of its people as guaranteed under Article 371(A) of the Constitution of India.
At the same time, the Organisation reiterated its commitment to conserve wildlife and its natural resources in line with our Traditional and Customary Rights and practices.
Accordingly, reaffirming its commitment to wildlife conservation and to create awareness, the CCYO has set the Great Barbet free in the Porbami forest.
The Organization appealed all villages, youth organisations and citizens under Centre Chakhesang to strictly adhere to the resolutions of CPO and CYF and protect our forest, wildlife and biodiversity.’
