Dimapur, June 2 (MExN): Ahead of the World Environment Day on June 5, 2011, the Nagaland Pollution Control Board has stated through a press note that the Forests of Nagaland can act as a carbon sink if we conserve our rich forests and plant more trees in the degraded areas and thus, play a vital role in reducing Global warming/Climate change. “Forests cover one third of the earth’s land mass, performing vital functions and services around the world which make our planet alive with possibilities. In fact, 1.6 billion people depend on forests for their livelihoods. Forests play a key role in our battle against climate change, releasing oxygen into the atmosphere while storing carbon dioxide”, stated the press note.
