Former Nagaland deputy minister no more; NLA Speaker, others condole

Kohima, January 27 (MExN): Former Member of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) and ex-Deputy Minister P Mongchua Khiamniungan passed away on January 26 at Tuensang. He was the father of sitting MLA Benei M Lamthiu.

Before entering politics, he served as an Assistant Superintendent under the Assam Government and also held the position of President of the Khiamniungan Tribal Council.

He was elected from the Thonoknyu Assembly Constituency to the third NLA in 1974.

Meanwhile, in a condolence message, the NLA Speaker described late Mongchua as a humble and dedicated leader who worked tirelessly for the welfare and development of his constituency and for the people of Nagaland.

“His invaluable contributions to society will always be remembered and cherished. With his demise, the State has lost a veteran leader, and the void created will be difficult to fill,” he added.

On behalf of the Members of the 14th NLA, the Speaker extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for strength and comfort during this irreparable loss.

Ex-PAN: The Ex-Parliamentarians Association of Nagaland (Ex-PAN) also mourned the demise of one of its senior members and recalled his dedicated service to the people. The Association conveyed condolences to MLA Lamthiu and the bereaved family, and prayed for solace and comfort during the time of grief.

Advisor Tovihoto:  MLA and Advisor H Tovihoto Ayemi also expressed condolences, describing late Mongchua as a dedicated public servant and one of the early leaders of Nagaland whose public life was marked by simplicity and a deep sense of responsibility. He extended prayers and strength to the family, particularly to his son, MLA Lamthiu.

NPWF: In its condolence message, the National People’s Women Front (NPWF), Nagaland State Unit, described late Mongchua as a respected elder and committed public servant who made lifelong contributions to the welfare of the people, especially in Tuensang district and Eastern Nagaland.

He would be remembered for his integrity and quiet strength, it said, while extending condolences to the bereaved family and praying that the Almighty grant them courage and strength to endure the loss.
