Former student leader assaulted, unions condemn

Dimapur, February 5 (MExN): The Rengma Student’s Union (RSU) has condemned the “brutal” assault on Senenlo Kath, former General Secretary of Rengma Student’s Union and former social & cultural secretary of Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU), allegedly by personnel of Railway Protection Force (RPF) on February 3 at Railway Station, Dimapur. A press release issued by RSU President, RN David Mach questioned the RPF personnel whether “they are employed to ensure safe passage of the passengers or to commit such crimes on the passengers.” Further, the Union urged the State government to issue an urgent directive to investigate the incident at the earliest and bring the personnel responsible to book.   The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union has also expressed pain and condemned the assault on Senenlo Kath. In a press release, the Union also lauded the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Law & Order for taking up the matter and setting up enquiry into the incident and requested the law enforcing agency to deliver justice to the victim at the earliest. Meanwhile, the release issued by Daniel Semp, Secretary, Education & Statistical and Mteisuding, Secretary, Info & Publicity appealed to the power department to provide electricity regularly during the upcoming HSLC & HSSLC examination. It also appealed to the public to maintain peaceful environment.
