MOKOKCHUNG, MAY 4 (MExN): The foundation stone for the Khutak Valley Organic Processing Plant (KVOPP) was laid on May 3 at Khanimu-Longjang village by T N Mannen, IAS (Retd), Advisor for Law & Justice and Land Revenue, Government of Nagaland.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mannen said Longjang has the potential to become the "bread basket" of Mokokchung district due to its favourable geographical location and fertile soil, which is conducive to diverse agricultural activities.

The Advisor lauded the efforts of Khutak Valley Organic Producer Company Limited, Longjang (KVOPCLL) and expressed gratitude to the Department of Horticulture for its support in realising the project. He also acknowledged the contributions of retired officers from Longjang village in initiating the company, while urging them to maintain the purity and branding of its produce.

“Let this project be the first step towards an economic renaissance for Longjang and Khanimu,” he remarked, encouraging the stakeholders not to be discouraged by initial challenges.

Dr Amenla, District Horticulture Officer, Mokokchung, commended the KVOPCLL board for taking the lead in creating income generation avenues for local farmers through organic produce under the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER). She informed that installation of machinery for the plant would begin soon and encouraged farmers to expand citrus fruit plantations in the valley.

Khutak Valley Organic Processing Plant is a project under the Department of Horticulture, Government of Nagaland, with Entrepreneur Associates, Nagaland, as the supporting partner. The initiative is part of the Mission Organic Value Chain Development for North Eastern Region (MOVCDNER) — a central sector scheme aimed at promoting organic farming, enhancing value addition, and creating market linkages across the northeastern states.
