Mokokchung, August 12 (MExN): The department of Soil and Water Conservation, Mokokchung conducted one day training on Soil Health Card and Soil Health Management under NMSA-SHC 2020-21 at Farmers field, Changtongya on August 10.
A press release stated here that all together eight villages under Changtongya sub-division attended the training which involved technical session and field demonstration.
Dr Keviletsu Khate, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK, Mokokchung apprised the farmers to seriously give importance on soil health for agriculture development. He advised the farmers that agriculture should not be considered as a source of time pass and recreational activities just to marrow the financial assistance that are being rendered by the Government, but a source of livelihood and economic backbone while concentrating on organic farming and sustainable agriculture.
Soil health cards are not less than ration cards that the farmers has to rely upon these in future to implement any agri and allied projects. He further invited the farmers to come forward to KVK and Soil and Water Conservation department for technical assistance that may required while referring the Soil health cards.
In the technical session, Renbemo Ngullie, ACTO (Horticulture), KVK, Mokokchung shared on enrichment of soil fertility through the use of green manures and bio-fertilizers. This was followed by Samuel Sangtam, ACTO (Agronomy), KVK, Mokokchung on topic ‘different types of compost making and its uses.’
During the field demonstration, Toshinenla Pongen, Junior Soil Conservation Officer, Mokokchung taught the farmers on soil sample collection, use of GPS in sample collection and activities to be performed in the demonstration plots with the use of vermi compost.
The programme concluded with distribution of soil health card and vermi compost.
