Free health camp at Sotokur Village conducted

Villagers availing the free health camp service conducted at Sotokur Village, Tuensang.

Tuensang, January 23 (MExN): Observing the weeklong celebration of National Girl Child Day under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme, Tuensang District Administration and Department of Social Welfare in convergence with Health & Family Welfare conducted a free health camp at Sotokur Village, Tuensang.


The programme was held at Sotokur Council Hall and Khiumong EAC Sotokur chaired the programme. The team was joined by Hutoi Sema DPO (ICDS), Dr Pangjung Sangtam CMO, Dr. Moa MS, Dr Chemithung, Dr Ezung, Dr Emmanuel, five Nurses and Swasth Bharat Prerak POSHAN Abhiyan Tuensang.


About 210 patients including pregnant and lactating mothers, adolescent girl, children and old age persons in the village avail the services provided through health camp under the banner of BBBP. Free medical treatment and medicines were provided to all the patients and sanitary napkins were distributed among adolescent girls in the village.


Briefing on the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme, Hutoi Sema, DPO (ICDS) stated in his keynote address that Tuensang District includes the awareness events on health and hygiene with door to door campaign by AWWs & ASHAs. He said that “The motivating behind this health camp is to give awareness on health and hygiene especially for the girl child and women folk in the village. Keeping in mind health is the greatest gift and basic necessity for all.” He further stated that the entire girl child must be equally given the opportunity as to a kid.


Rev. Akhang Pastor of Sotokur Baptist Church invokes God's blessing to start the programme. He also exhibited the BBBP pledge translated in local dialect (Yimchunger) and urged the villagers to follow the goals of the scheme for the advancement of the society.


The programme proceeded with the discourse from Dr Pangjung CMO Tuensang where he addressed on the declining Sex Ratio in the Tuensang district. “Education is the only means for our society to let girl child fly in colors. Women are nothing less than their counterpart and they can achieve everything,” he stated while urging the village authority, Church and the elders to advance the culture of giving best education to the girl child.
The chairperson in his closing remark said, “Discrimination is the issue unspoken in our society and now is the right time to inculcate in encouraging the general public against gender disparity.”
