TYO, KYC ‘B’, KSU, MYSU enter semis
DIMAPUR, APRIL 27 (MExN): The 5th Frolic Cup 2017, Medziphema saw Tsiepama Youth Organisation (TYO), KYC ‘B’, Khanakhurü Students' Union (KSU) and Molvom Youth and Students' Union (MYSU) sailing into the semi-finals after defeating their respective opponents in the quarter-finals matches played at the Medziphema local ground on April 27.
Defending champions TYO prevailed over a resilient Medziphema Village Youth Organisation in a match decided by a ‘sudden death’ goal after the penalty shootout ended in a 2-2 tie. The match was locked at 1-1 after regulation time. During the match, MVYO was the first to score but TYO came back strongly to equalize. Khriese scored for MVYO while Kumzua scored the equaliser for TYO.
The penalty shootout saw both the goalies making heroic saves locking the score at 2-2 after the allotted 5 shots each. With pressure mounting, MVYO took the 6th shot, which unfortunately rebounded off the crossbar handing the match to TYO. Asui of MVYO was shown the first red card of the tournament during the match.
In the second quarter-finals match, KYC ‘B’ handed a 2-0 defeat to Winfield Club in a match that had both the teams displaying fine footwork. Letkhokai found the back of the back in the first half with Nyithung later extending the lead towards the end of the match. Hamping of KYC 'B' and Anam were cautioned for unsporting behaviour.
KSU engineered a comfortable 4-0 win over Sporting Club, Phaipijang in the third quarter-finals. KSU dominated the match from start with Salu scoring a double while Ninja and Rhitso scoring one each.
MYSU edged past Khanglai FC in the fourth quarter-finals encounter 1-0. Thangkhohao sealed the fate of the match early on in the first half in a match that saw the teams missing chances at goal. Dehhao and Lalminthang of Khanglai FC and Temjenwati of Molvom Youth and Students' Union were cautioned for unsporting behaviour.
