Diesel and petrol prices were hiked for the second consecutive day across the country, including Nagaland on October 21 taking the rates to a new record high.

Accordingly, with diesel price hiked by 0.35 paise across the state, Mon became the fourth district in Nagaland where the cost breached the Rs 100-a-litre mark on Thursday.

On October 20, Tuensang, Kiphire and Noklak reached the threshold.

In four other districts – Phek, Mokokchung, Longleng and Zunheboto (Satakha), diesel prices were above Rs 99 per litre in the State-owned Indian Oil Corporation Limited outlets according to its official IndianOil ONE app.

Diesel was ‘cheapest’ in Dimapur at Rs 97.42 per litre on Thursday.

Meanwhile, with 0.34 paise hike, petrol was retailing at Rs 108.31 a litre in Tuensang, the highest in Nagaland, followed by Kiphire (108.24) and Noklak (108.10) on October 21.

In State capital Kohima, it was Rs 105.93 per litre, while in Dimapur, where fuel rates are lowest, it was retailing at Rs 104.93 a litre.
According to IANS news agency, as of October 21, petrol prices had been raised on 18 of the previous 23 days while diesel rates have increased on 21 out of the last 27 days.

Crude price has been on a surge rising over three year high level of over $85 a barrel now as global demand remains firm while 'OPEC+' continues to move slowly on increasing production, it added.

The retail prices of fuel are fixed by the oil marketing companies (OMCs) on the basis of 15 days rolling average price of petrol and diesel in the international market while there is also an impact by the rupee dollar exchange rate as per an official oil ministry statement.

Several other factors determine the final retail prices including central and state taxes including cess, dealer’s commission, and freight charges, and as a result, prices differs across states or regions.
