Full-fledged police station at Chessore inaugurated

CHESSORE (TUENSANG), NOVEMBER 26 (MExN): Chessore, the biggest Yimchungru village under Shamator sub-division in Tuensang district received another developmental bonus this year with inauguration of a full-fledged police station at Chessore town adjoining the village.

The new police station was inaugurated by parliamentary secretary for IPR and Economics & Statistics, R Tohanba, on Monday (November 26) in presence of Tuensang district administration, police and public and villagers of Chessore. Chessore, which was administered by a circle officer even before inauguration of Tuensang district headquarters at Tuensang town was recently upgraded from EAC post to SDO (C).

The parliamentary secretary in his address said that creation of at least a police outpost at Chesssore was a long-felt need of the people of Chessore area as policing and maintenance of law and order of the vast area was being covered by the police station at Shamator town, some 44 kms from Chessore. Seeing the size and population of Chessore village, crime rate and frequent law and order problem in the area, Tohanba said the DAN government decided to set up a full-fledged police station at Chessore. 

Stating that opening of a police station would not serve much purpose without active co-operation of the public, Tohanba urged the public to extend full support and cooperation to police and administration for maintenance of law and order and smooth functioning of administration and developmental activities. 

To police personnel, he said that once the police station is fully manned and functional, they should perform their duty with dedication keeping public good safety and welfare uppermost in their mind.

Guest of honour, DIG (North) Philip Humtsoe, in his speech said that through the initiative of parliamentary secretary Tohanba, who is also the elected representative of Shamator-Chessore assembly constituency, the state government has been kind enough to grant a full-fledged police station to people of Chessore.

The DIG also said that public-police relation should be cordial for effective maintenance of law and order.

Superintendent Police, Tuensang district, Roopa M, who proposed vote of thanks, said that once the police station becomes fully functional, public are welcome to lodge complaints to higher authority in case of dereliction of duty or indiscipline by personnel manning the station.

Earlier, SDO (C) Chessore, Bendanglila in her welcome address said the new police station will cover 11 villages and two townships.

Vice president, Eastern Nagaland People’s Organization, Kekhong Chim and vice chairman, Chessore Adhoc Town Committee, Tochimong, also spoke on the occasion. SDPO, DEF Tuensang, Z James Sema, chaired the programme.
