GB association reasserts demand for justice

DIMAPUR, MARch 2 (MExN): The Kiphire District GB Association today firmed its stand on the earlier published 5-point charter of its demands.

Reiterating that the Meeting held on February 26 was attended by all the “Tribes under Kiphire District except Pungro Area GB’s Association reason best known to them,” a rejoinder said “the WYAA had mentioned that certain tribes were not included in the meeting. Your confirmation can be made available through the signature of the meeting.”

Terming the GB Association as purely an NGO representing the general public of Kiphire District, Vikato Sumi, President, KDGBA and Executive Chairman T Zikimong Sangtam, countered, “Therefore, the K.D.G.B.A. is compelled to pressurize the administration to deliver justice before 14th March 2007 for killing of Throngthsangkiu Head GB, Zaonger Village.”

“The WYAA alleging the KDGBA for misuse of power and taking law into their hand is completely false and baseless. The KDGBA is a peace maker not a law breaker. With tireless effort (provided) by the KDGBA the situation at Kiphire is normal at present.”

The rejoinder said that on February 27 last, 67 signatories representing all tribes under Kiphire District approached the District Administration and submitted the charter of demands, which was accepted by the District Administration. Certain issues pertaining to the matter were also discussed, the rejoinder said.

“The KDGBA is requesting the WYAA not to involve in the matter without proper knowledge of the incident as the situation is quite sensitive. Therefore, let the administration take its own course of action and deliver the justice. Unnecessarily involvement shall be amounted to dangerous consequences.”

In regard to “alleged torture in police custody” of the six arrested in connection to the killing of the Headman of Zaonger and his six family members, it is up to the government to give befitting punishment according to their crime committed if the arrested suspects are found convicted, it was mentioned . “So, your warning stating that the Yimchunger Public would not remain silent spectators if ‘anything happens to them’ is nothing but showing your total ignorance before the eye of the law.”
