Zunheboto, February 25 (MExN): The Satoi Range GBs Association concluded its 27th Biennial General Conference with Minister for Agriculture & Co-operation, G Kaito Aye as special guest at Khuvuxu village on February 24.

Noting that Gaonburas (GBs) are the guardians of village administration, Minister Kaito urged them to uphold peace, unity and uplift the community like their forefathers had done in the past. He appealed to the GBs to live in principle and look after the affairs of public welfare with sincerity, honesty and dedication for the progressive development in the region.

He also said that the GBs should ensure all the welfare schemes granted by the government are practically implemented for the benefit of the village community and further said that the backward fund allotted for Satoi block under the Department of Under Developed Areas would be supervised by the Satoi Range GBs Association for developments plans in the future.

Kaito disclosed that Tribal Girls Hostel under tribal affairs would also be constructed at Satoi Headquarter and exhorted the student community to have a competitive spirit in their academic career and avail opportunities under the Nagaland Staff Selection Board and others exams.

Guest speaker Awomi observed that unity and mutual respect among the Satoi community is the need of the hour and therefore urged the GBs to take the lead and march for the upbringing of the community. Awomi also stated that government primary schools and high school under Satoi range need improvement in student enrolment and better academic results. In this connection, she urged the students union to also look into student affairs to ensure quality education in the region.

Further stressing on the need for the community to adopt ‘dignity of labour,’ she asserted that the divisions prevailing in different fields are worsened by the outcome of the multiple factions among the Nagas and the Sumi community in particular. This, she said is one of the main factors holding the community back from positive growth, she strongly discouraged the ‘clanism’ among the Sumi community.
