Genesis & chronicles of Intangki forest

Way back in 1921-23 the then British government approached Beisampui village for acquisition of the Intangki forest. The villagers gave their comment and assisted them in the survey which took a couple of months. Taking advantage of the ignorance of the villagers, only a nominal compensation was granted.

In the year 1975 the forest was extended to the present area by the Nagaland state government. The nomenclature of the forest also changed i.e (1). Intanki reserve forest (2). Intanki wild life sanctuary (3). Intanki national park. The said forest area is cent percent within the traditional land jurisdiction of Beisampui village with no encumbrances.

Beisampuikam village – The Beisampuikam village was established in1982 with the full consent and permission of the land owner, Beisampui village and subsequently duly recognized by the state government with no complain and objection from any guar tee. The Beisampuikam village was shifted to the present location during 1993 which is in fact within Intanki forest. With full knowledge of the land owner.  The forest department objected to the move and ordered for eviction and carried out. Here the land owner intervened and offered land for exchange to which the wild life/forest department agreed and the proposal was moved by the chief wildlife warden trough the PCCF (N) and accordingly the state cabinet approved the same through its cabinet memo in the year 1995 with certain conditions. Here after the department deputed technical experts for detail survey for the exchange of land.

The survey team designated by the department have taken extensive exercise and documented its detail and submitted their report to the department and government for further necessary action which is still awaited (reason best known to the concern authority)

The so called Inavi/United Naga village illegally encroached village within Intanki national park have been issuing baseless press release in all local dailies to garnier support from innocent peace loving and right thinking Naga societies is just a white-wash with not a dirt of truth. Based on what ground are they claiming equal status with the land owner satellite village. Beisampuikam. Do they have any land for exchange? Are they thinking that Intanki national park is a ‘no men’s land’? is their belief ‘might is power’ acceptable to the Nagas? Do they have any legal standing? Do our right thinking Nagas agree with their claim at par with Beisampuikam village?

Sorry, we cannot entertain all the baseless claims in the interest of the people of our Naga nation. hope you all agree that there is not an inch of land within our Naga territory without its owner, if we are to build a strong  Naga society we are bound to respect, honor and abide our ancestral traditional land holding system and handed down to the younger generations.

The Inavi village authority claims that the proposed land for exchange with the wild life department belongs to Lilen village is baseless. Lilen village was established with the consent of peren village and traditional land boundary between Beisampui and peren is very clear with no dispute. If their be, it is purely between the two land owner, Zeme village to settle, not the satellite village who are tenants.

Adding dry wood and fuel to a burning is very dangerous. Why the Inavi villages authorizes and well wishers making this issues as ism? Will this bring any long standing solution? The best for all Naga society is, wherever they are, vacate and leave the illegal encroached village Inavi or united Naga village at the earliest for the best interest of all Nagas to uphold peace and tranquility and belief and trust among our Naga tribes.

From time immemorial the land of present Intanki National park belong to Beisampui village. The proof is all the names of owners’ hills name and important land marks are in Zeme Naga language.
