GHS Sechii (Zubza) upgraded to Higher Secondary School

Bringing joy to the people of Western Angami area in the field of education, the Government High School Sechii (Zubza) under Kohima district has been upgraded to Higher Secondary School on March 2.

Unveiling the inaugural monolith, Nagaland School Education, Advisor KT Sukhalu assured for construction of extra classroom for higher classes within this year or by early part of 2023. He said the government is taking up the matter with Government of India under Samagra Shiksha.

Sukhalu placed on record that Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio has a serious concern for the growth of education and the upgradation of GHS Sechii (Zubza) has been done through his understanding and trust that the young generation should not be deprived of higher education in the rural and semi-rural areas.

Admitting the many of the school buildings are very old and “Unfortunately, because of the resources problem we cannot give the required funds for all the schools for either repairing or renovation or new constructions.”

In Nagaland, he said that the best building structure in any village or town is the Church and the worst or rather the most dilapidated condition is the school building.

Stating that COVID pandemic has badly hit the economy, he said, “We totally depend GoI for the grants and the state don’t have its own resources to build up the proper infrastructure.” But I am looking forward that with the strong leadership in Delhi and with the rebounding of the economy, I hope in the days to come, we will be able to address many issues regarding the infrastructure, he said.

Meanwhile, Sukhalu lauded the School Management Committee (SMC) and the school authority for managing the school in proper manner. He also thanked the village elders and the community for their concern and at the same time asked them to check proxy teachers. 

Further, he urged upon them to work towards improvement of enrollment. He informed that the government has downgraded many schools on account of poor enrollment.

Also speaking on the occasion, MLA Keneizhakho Nakhro from 8th Western Angami A/C said that the upgradation of GHS Sechii (Zubza) has fulfilled the long desired dreams of the community. Thanking KT Sukhalu and the state government for making it possible, he was also hopeful that additional teachers and infrastructure will be extended to this school in the days to come. He was optimistic that this school will emerge as one of the best performing government higher secondary schools in Nagaland.

Nagaland School Education Director, Wonthungo Tsopoe and several other dignitaries also present at the inaugural function. Earlier, welcome address was delivered by GHS Sechii (Zubza) headmaster Visasielie Suhu. The programme was chaired by Neiphi Viya, SMC Sechii (Zubza) while vote of thanks was proposed by Sechii (Zubza) Village Council chairman Khriengulie Kuotsu.
