GHSS Kigwema gets new building under Samagra Shiksha Nagaland

The new school building of Government Higher Secondary School Kigwema in Kohima district was inaugurated on May 4 by Kevileno Angami, Commissioner & Secretary for School Education & SCERT, Nagaland. 

The building has been constructed under Samagra Shiksha Nagaland. The school currently has an enrolment of 188 students from classes 7 to 12 and is manned by about 25 teachers.

Addressing the gathering, Kevileno said that this building has been constructed for a purpose, to ensure that quality teaching take place in the school. She asked the community to take care of the building “so that the children, who come to study here, gain quality knowledge.”

“If you don't maintain this building, it will become another old dilapidated building,” she said, adding, “When it is maintained, then it will continue to be a source of inspiration for all of us.”

She said that the successive results of the school show the commitment and diligence of the teachers in transacting knowledge to children.

While appreciating the progress made, she noted that there remains scope for further improvement in enrolment and academic performance. Stating that education is a catalyst for development and progress, she said, “If there is progress in education, it gives us a platform.”

“We have to make education joyful. We should make the children zeal to come to school,” she said.

Stating that all teachers were trained to make education joyful, she urged, “We have to make learning joyful because we cannot force education into someone else. Unless you have a desire to learn, you cannot learn.”

She acknowledged the landowners for donating land free of cost for the school’s development and thanked the School Management Development Committee, Village Council, community leaders, and other stakeholders for their continued support.

She said logistic support from the state and central governments made the building possible, and thanked the pioneers and visionary leaders from the Southern Angami area who planted the seed of the school in 1946, leading to its subsequent upgradation to higher secondary level with science stream.

Call of completion of Lighthouse project on time
Kevileno informed that the government has allotted Nagaland Education Project-The Lighthouse (NECTAR) to GHSS Kigwema, wherein academic building and hostels are under construction.
Such project envisages to establish the Lighthouse School Complexes in different parts of the state, which will be centers of excellence with state of the art facilities, vocational education, best teaching and learning practices.

The children will be able to benefit from this Lighthouse school complex, she said and urged everyone to take advantage of the facility.

She also urged the contractors to ensure that this project is completed on time.

We will have to assist each other in ensuring that this project comes to a logical conclusion, she said.

Also delivering short speech, Kigwema Village Council chairman Khomeze Mera extended community’s support for smooth functioning and overall development of the school.

He assured that the Village Council will always stand to facilitate a healthy school environment.

Earlier, Rose Chishi, Principal GHSS Kigwema chaired the programme while Rev Mekhale Yhoshii, pastor Kigwema Baptist Church invoked God’s blessings. Vote of thanks was proposed by Neiphrezo Thorie, president KYO and SMDC member.

Vikhweno Chale, Additional Secretary, Department of School Education, Vineikho Tetso, SDO (Civil) Jakhama and Dr Kevizakie Rio, Joint Mission Director, Samagra Shiksha Nagaland also present at the inaugural programme.
