VIJAYAWADA, OCTOBER 16 (IANS): Another sensational case is challenging the city police in less than a week's time, in which a girl died of stab injuries, even as her friend is battling for his life.

Nagendra and Divya Tejaswini of Krishthurajapuram area in Vijayawada were found with stab injuries in the girl's home on Thursday.

Tejaswini subsequently succumbed to her injuries while Nagendra is undergoing treatment.

"When this incident happened, only those two people were present, the girl and boy and nobody else had witnessed that incident," Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Harshavardhan Raju told IANS.

Police learnt that the two were in love for the last five years and were also believed to have got married.

"We don't know what happened or what prompted him to resort to such an act," said Raju.

Nagendra went to Tejaswini's home on Thursday when there was nobody there.

"Nagendra said he attempted to commit suicide and we are not aware of what happened subsequently," said the DCP.

In a different version Nagendra also told police that Tejaswini tried to stab him. The police are not sure of the truth.

Police registered two cases in the matter, under IPC Sections 302, 309 and 441, including an SC/ST atrocities case as the girl belonged to a Dalit family.

According to police, Nagendra had eight stab wounds, two on his wrist, four in his abdomen and two on his neck.

"Doctors are saying that his condition is critical and we have to wait for some more time. On Thursday he underwent a surgery, he had blood clotting also," said Raju.

"Whatever he says we can't simply rely on it. That may not be true. He said the same thing yesterday and today also, that the girl stabbed him but we are not convinced about his version," said Raju.

Meanwhile, Tejaswini's parents are accusing Nagendra of murdering their daughter and have denied any love and marriage angle in the case.

Vijayawada police are also investigating the deaths of a man and a woman from burn injuries in an incident which occurred in Hanumanpet. That has also turned out to be a blind case with no CCTV footage or eyewitnesses.

The police have identified the woman as Chinnari and the man as Nagabushanam, both aged between 25 and 30 years.

Recently, another man from Krishturajapuram, Mahesh, who was working in the city police commissionerate, was shot dead on the outskirts of the city.
