Mon, October 15 (MExN): Along with the rest of the world, PHED, Mon Division organised and observed Global Hand Washing Day on October 15 at the Government High School, Phomching HQ.
October 15 is a global advocacy day dedicated to increase awareness and understanding about the importance of hand washing with soap and water as an effective and affordable way to prevent diseases and save lives, according to a press release received on Friday. As we enter a new normal, beyond COVID-19, our future is at hand. This year’s Theme, “Our Future is at Hand – Let’s Move Forward Together,” calls for coordinated action as we actively work toward universal hand hygiene, it added.
The objective of the gathering was to spread awareness on hand hygiene at the grassroots level to teachers, students, members of Paani Samiti and Village Council. The speaker of the programme, Chuba Longchar, Sanitation and Hygiene Consultant, DWSM, Mon, highlighted and emphasized on the history and origin of Global Hand Washing Day, its significance and the importance of hand washing in preventing COVID-19, while Pangken, Chemist, Mon Division, demonstrated various steps of hand washing to the congregation.
School level painting competition and placard campaign on hand hygiene were also carried out to ensure active participation of the students, and prizes were given accordingly. This was sponsored by PHED Mon Division.
Altogether there were more than 250 participants, comprising of teachers, students, WATSAN Committee members, Village Education Committee, and Village Council members. Handwashes, soaps and hand sanitizers were distributed to all the attendees, the release stated.
