GMS Tesophenyu Upper merges with GHS Tesophenyu

TESOPHENYU, FEBRUARY 16 (MExN): The School Management Committee (SMC) of GMS Tesophenyu Upper has welcomed the decision by the State Level Education Committee (SLEC) to merge the school with Government High School Tesophenyu. The decision, made on November 1,02024 aims to enhance educational quality and sustainability in the region, the committee said.

The SMC credited the move to the leadership of Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, Advisor for School Education and SCERT, calling it a "transformative step" in the state’s education sector.

Established in 1962 and upgraded to a Government Middle School in 2008, GMS Tesophenyu Upper has played a key role in elementary education, bolstered by initiatives such as Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Samagra Shiksha, and the Nagaland Education Project-The Lighthouse (NECTAR). The committee also acknowledged the contributions of teaching staff, whose efforts have been recognized at district and state levels.

In a statement, the SMC outlined recommendations for systemic improvements in Nagaland’s education sector. These include establishing a Government High School in each range or group based on population density, setting up at least one Higher Secondary School per district, and rationalizing teacher deployment to ensure an equitable distribution of subject-specific educators.

The committee also urged the state government to address technical challenges in the TAMS/SMILE App, a digital initiative aimed at streamlining administrative processes in education. The SMC called for improved monitoring mechanisms and suggested extending the app’s model to other state departments to enhance transparency.

The SMC reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the transition of the newly amalgamated institution, emphasizing that “bold and compassionate reforms” are essential for the future of education in Nagaland.
