GNF against harassment of families of Naga Political Groups

Dimapur, October 22 (MExN): The Global Naga Forum (GNF), a forum comprising of Nagas from different walks of life and places, today  raised concerns over what it alleged as “continued threat tactics and persecution of the families of the different Naga Political Groups (NPGs), including children, by the Government of India and its agencies, in particular the National Investigation Agency (NIA).”

In a statement issued by GNF Media Coordinators on Thursday, the forum questioned “the dual policy of political negotiation at one hand and using threats, intimidation, and criminalizing tactics on the other,” adding that such policies are counterproductive to the “peaceful solution” the political negotiation is aiming to achieve.

We urge the Indian government agencies to stop such oppression and release every Naga political prisoner incarcerated in different prisons, and demonstrate a sincere commitment to the Indo-Naga peace process, it added.

The GNF expressed its belief that peace in the region will benefit India “far more than the political instability it is refusing to address,” stating that it is an opportune time to usher in genuine peace in the region, which can be achieved only when the Government of India is sincere.

It also appealed to the Naga public to remain vigilant and be reflective of the changing times and urged every Naga to “defend against division.”
