GoI deliberately misinterpreting Framework Agreement: NSCN (IM)

Terms undermining FA ‘political blunder’; struggle will go on

Dimapur, March 23 (MExN): The NSCN (IM) on Tuesday accused the Government of India (GoI) for “deliberately misinterpreting” the Framework Agreement (FA) and cautioned that in case of taking the Naga issue away from the FA, the Naga political struggle will go on.

The Naga political issue will not end with the leaders if the GoI fails to handle the issue as demanded by its nature, and try to undermine the Naga issue in the manner of the Shillong Accord or the 16 Point Agreement, the NSCN (IM) stated, terming such thought a political blunder’.

“Naga leadership will come and go but the burning issue will never die as long as honorable settlement remains elusive,” it asserted.

While the NSCN (IM) and the Naga people have waited for more than five years for the GoI to act on the Framework Agreement with all seriousness, the passage of time indicated that the GoI is having something else much below the Framework Agreement, it alleged.

“This is going to set off another long drawn struggle as Naga people will never barter away the political rights given to them by God,” it added.

Cautioning that it is “not short of intellectual ability to intensify the struggle,” the NSCN (IM) however, said that military struggle was never their option.

The 1997 ceasefire and the decades-long Indo-Naga political talks are because “political issue demands political solution,” it said.

It however, took exception to the GoI “deliberately misinterpreting the Framework Agreement to justify their proposed terms and conditions for the settlement of the Naga issue,” terming it a matter of undermining the Naga political issue.

“This is going to go totally against the spirit of NSCN in particular and the Naga people in general who wanted to usher in permanent peace in Nagalim and the whole region of South-east Asia,” it added.
