Gold bars worth Rs. 6.13 crore seized in Siliguri

Siliguri, August 27 (MExN): Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officers recovered 20 kg gold bars of foreign origin from a vehicle in Siliguri on August 24.   Two occupants of the vehicle identified as Rohit Agarwal and Niraj Agarwal had carried the gold from Binnaguri to Siliguri, stated a press release from DRI. The brothers are engaged in the business of import of footwear from China.   The gold bars estimated to be worth around Rs. 6.13 crore were smuggled into India from Bhutan through Jaigaon-Phuentsholing border, it further said.   With this, in the current financial year in the region spread over West Bengal and the North-Eastern states, the DRI has seized over 243.467 kg of gold and gold jewellery valued at close to Rs. 73.33 crore in the market, smuggled from Bangladesh, Myanmar, Bhutan and even China.
