
Newmai News Network Imphal | October 15 The State Government of Manipur is likely to release the teachers and students of Manipur University in the judicial custody any time from now. The Chief Minister then expressed regret that the professors/teachers of the Manipur were handcuffed when they were brought out for medical checkup in a hospital yesterday. Answering to media persons on the Manipur University issue, Chief Minister, N Biren Singh said that the State Government is finding ways for the release of the arrested teachers/professors and students. Altogether there are 6 Manipur University teachers and 9 students in judicial custody. They were arrested during the “midnight raid” of hostels in the Manipur University campus in the intervening night of September 20 and 21 after the then Pro-Vice Chancellor, Yogindro had lodged a complaint in a police station that he was “manhandled". The Chief Minister then said that the “concerned” department will investigate into the matter regarding the handcuffing of the teachers and action will be taken accordingly. Jarnail Singh, the newly appointed Administrator of the varsity too has said that he will ensure that befitting action is taken against those police personnel responsible for handcuffing the university teachers when they were brought to a hospital for medical examinations yesterday. He termed the incident as humiliation for the professors.
