The Good Samaritan Senior Citizen’s Home (GSSCH) today celebrated its 19th foundation day cum thanksgiving service with Khevito Shohe, former director Social Welfare, Government of Nagaland as the guest of honour.

GSSCH is located at Meriema near Kohima, below new High Court complex.

Addressing the celebration, Shohe called upon the residents of this Senior Citizen’s Home to be thankful to God and continue to pray for effective function of the Home. He urged the state government as well as the individuals to come forward and contribute towards the cause of senior citizens.

The government needs to address the welfare service of the senior citizens, he said.

“We are very happy to have many senior citizens living here happily and peacefully,” said Good Samaritan Women Society (GSWS) Chairperson, Neithonuo Liegise.

GSWS was founded by Neithonuo T Liegise with some likeminded women, who had a heart of compassion for the underprivileged section and a burden to uplift them.

Their main focus and priority is to provide quality health care and recreation for the needy senior citizens in the state. The Society was registered under Society Registration Act of 1860.

Liegise said that this Senior Citizen’s Home, was earlier called Kohima Old Age Home, established in 2005 and now called  as Good Samaritan Senior Citizen’s Home under the aegis of GSWS. “We made this Home as residents for senior citizens,” she said.

Presently, this Home has 23 senior citizens out of 25-bedded capacity.

Juliana Medom, executive member GSWS talked on elderly care. “Government needs to come up with a policy for old age care, not only a home for them to stay but a day care centre,” she said.

Earlier, Rev G Khing invoked God’s blessings while vote of thanks was proposed by GSSCH superintendent Pangmei Phom.
