Kohima, July 13 (MExN): The Gorkha Sahitya Kala Sanstha Kohima (GSKSK) under the aegis of Gorkha Public Panchayat Kohima (GPPK) celebrated the 206th Birth Anniversary of Adikavi Bhanubhakta Acharya, the Architect of Nepali language at GPPK hall, Kohima with minimal participation due to the COVID-19 pandemic on July 13.
Bhanubhakta Acharya was a Nepali poet, translator and writer. He was the first writer to translate the great epic Ramayana from Sanskrit to Nepali. Despite having other contemporary poets in the country during his time, he is revered and honored with the title of Adikavi (the first poet) of the Nepali language.
Delivering the speech on the occasion, GPPK President Santu Thapa said that keeping in mind the present pandemic, the celebration could not be held in a bigger manner unlike the previous years but following the SOP and social distancing protocols the community observed the day through virtual mode with minimal participation at the main venue in GPPK Hall.
On behalf of the Gorkha community, Thapa extended gratitude to all the frontline workers and also prayed for the speedy recovery of the COVID-19 infected and affected persons.
GSKSK Vice President Ganga Thapa chaired the programme while the welcome address was delivered by Assistant general secretary Bikash Lama. Bala Khawas presented the life sketch of Acharya and secretary GSKSK Dilip Biswakarma tendered the vote of thanks.
